Belles turn their attention back to the Vitality Women's FA Cup and the 1st Round Proper as Huddersfield Town Women visit the Iqbal Poultry Stadium on Sunday.

Belles manager Nick Buxton will want his squad to build on recent performances that have seen Belles score ten goals and concede four. This includes the 7-1 win over Leicester City Ladies in the last round of the FA Cup, the 2-1 league win over Sporting Khalsa, and the narrow 2-1 defeat in the FAWNL Plate away at Northern Premier side AFC Fylde on the last weekend of October.

Nick said: "We've got better over the the course of those three games. We stepped it up to overpower Leicester, showed desire and endeavour to come back and win after going behind to Khalsa, and matched Tier 3 Fylde all the way - just losing a moment's concentration to concede the winner.

"With no game last weekend, the break works well for us, as it gives us time to recover and we also have players coming back from injury. So overall, with those performances and the recovery period, we are in good spirits and looking forward to the challenge of facing Huddersfield on Sunday.

Opponents Huddersfield Town WFC was formed as Huddersfield Town Ladies in 1988, with the club working its way up through the local leagues to join the Northern Premier Division in 2014, where it has been ever since. The club was re-branded in 2019 as Huddersfield Town Women FC and currently sits fourth in the Northern Premier on seventeen points, having played nine games, winning five, drawing two and losing two. The Terriers are on a four-match winning run having beaten Loughborough Lightning 2-0 last weekend.

Nick continued: "We need to make sure that we are totally focused against an arguably stronger Tier 3 side than Fylde, otherwise we will again get punished if we switch off. On the other hand, if we continue the excellent application, organisation and hunger of those recent performances then we have every chance of being in the hat for the next round.

The last time the two clubs squared off was in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup last season, with the Terriers narrowly defeating the Belles 1-0 in the quarter-finals. Huddersfield then went on to win the trophy with a 5-0 victory over Barnsley in the final at the Keepmoat stadium. Further back in January 2020, Huddersfield walloped the Belles 12-0 - again in the County Cup - this time on the 4G at the Keepmoat in what was Andy Butler's and Nick Buxton's first game in charge.

Having handed out tickets to local schools, Belles are hoping for a bumper attendance on Sunday. The game will also be preceded by the annual Remembrance Day service, led by members of the Royal British Legion, so please arrive earlier than usual.

The game kicks off at 1pm at the Iqbal Poultry Stadium, Grange Road, Moorends, DN8 4NA.
