Belles return to the Iqbal Poultry stadium this Sunday for the visit of Sporting Khalsa Women FC in the FAWNL Division 1 Midlands.

Sporting Khalsa is based in Willenhall, Wolverhampton, and the club achieved its highest finishes of third and fourth in Division 1 Midlands in 2016-17 and 2018-19 respectively. Last season they reached the semi-finals of the FAWNL Plate competition beating four teams along the way.

Khalsa have had a very good start to this season's league campaign and are currently sitting in third position on thirteen points after six games, with four wins, one draw and one defeat. Those wins include a home defeat of Peterborough Utd, an away win at Sheffield FC and their second win over Long Eaton Utd in four days, having beaten the league's bottom club 7-2 last night and 10-0 in the Plate last Sunday.

Last season Belles did the double over Khalsa, with Sophie Scargill scoring in the 1-0 home win, and goals from Lily Wishart, Lauren Breen and a brace from Jasmine Saxton securing a 4-0 away win in the reverse fixture on the 4G at the Guardian Warehousing Arena.

Belles manager Nick Buxton has been lavish in his praise of his side for the excellent team performance away at Peterborough in which Nadia Khan's second goal of the season proved the difference, but was under no illusions of the challenge that the visitors will bring.

Nick said:"Khalsa are a good side - their results and league position show that. Just this week they have scored 17 goals. The people I’ve spoken to have been complimentary about their style of play and how it causes problems for their opponents, so we'll need to be on it.

"This season the quality of the teams in this division has improved and so games are going to be harder and closer than before - this one will be no different. We were excellent against Peterborough and we need to perform to that standard again this weekend.

The game kicks off at 2pm at the Iqbal Stadium, Moorends, DN8 4NA
