Belles return to  FAWNL Division 1 Midlands league action on Sunday as they welcome Stourbridge FC Women to the Iqbal Poultry Stadium.

In their second home league game of the season, Nick Buxton’s side will be looking to bounce back to winning ways following the 2-1 League Cup defeat to Merseyrail Ladies FC last time out.

Playing at Tier 4 level for the first time in their history, opponents Stourbridge come into the game as league leaders, with four wins and one defeat so far. Formed as Stourbridge Ladies FC in 2012 and re-branded this season as Stourbridge FC Women, the club has had a similar meteoric rise through the leagues as Merseyrail, with three rapid promotions up to 2016 and last year comfortably winning the Tier 5 West Midlands Regional League by ten points - losing only one game, scoring 123 goals and conceding just eight along the way.

The Glassgirls have again been scoring for fun this season, including 7-0 and 4-0 home wins over Lincoln City and Peterborough United respectively. Last weekend they fell to a late winner away to Tier 3 Huddersfield in the FAWNL League Cup, losing the tie by a narrow 2-1 scoreline.

Having scored seventeen goals and only conceding three so far this season, Nick Buxton is under no illusions of the challenge Stourbridge will bring to his side this Sunday: "We'll need to have better decision-making, be braver on the ball and take more risks than we did against Merseyrail if we are to get anything out of Sunday's game.

"Stourbridge have made a great start to life at Tier 4 level and arrive as league leaders for a reason. They are technically very good and tactically well-organised, so we'll need to go into the game with the intensity and belief that we showed at the end of the Merseyrail game and all the way through the Long Eaton game.

"We should have players returning from injury which will help, but if we play to our strengths and are on our 'A' game, our supporters can expect a much better performance from us than they saw last weekend.

The game kicks off at 2pm at the Iqbal Stadium, Moorends, DN8 4NA
