Belles return to FAWNL league action this Sunday with the visit of second-placed Solihull Moors Women to the Iqbal Poultry stadium.

Nick Buxton's side last played a league game on 4th December in the 4-0 home victory against Leek Town Ladies, and currently sit in 4th place in FAWNL Division 1 Midlands, but with games in hand over the teams above them, including Sunday's visitors.

Solihull Moors Ladies was originally formed in 2012, being the first step in their men's club commitment to support and develop women’s football in the community. The name change to Solihull Moors Women occurred in 2019 following a club re-branding exercise.

Last season the club was in danger of relegation from Tier 4, but following the appointment of a new management team in November 2021 their fortunes have been turned around and this season they are proving to be one of the teams to beat as they continue what is their best ever start.

Sunday's clash will be the sixth time that the two clubs have met, with Belles winning four of the previous five meetings. However, this season Moors beat a lacklustre Belles 2-0 in the reverse fixture at the ARMCO Arena back in September, and they are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league with twenty points, having played nine, won six, drawn two and losing just the one game.

Belles sit two points behind with a game in hand, and Nick Buxton is in no doubt about the challenge Moors will present. Nick said: "It's going to be a hard game. Moors are a very good team and they are on a roll. We probably weren't at our best when we lost at their place, but last week's win in the County Cup at Kiveton has set us up nicely, and with another strong  week of training under our belts we are looking forward to what should be a very competitive game on Sunday.

Belles captain Jess Andrew agreed. Jess said: "The match postponements have been frustrating but the girls have worked hard to maintain their fitness during that time. We got a very good workout last weekend and confidence is sky high. We've got the whole squad pushing for the playing spots and as captain that's great to see and I'm really proud of them all.

"Against Solihull it will all be about how we want to play and how we implement our tactics in order to control the game. They were the better team when they beat us, so we need to be the better team on Sunday, and that will be down to how we prepare and how we apply ourselves in the game.

The game kicks off at 2pm at the Iqbal Stadium, Moorends, DN8 4NA
