Belles return to action on Sunday as they travel to face Kiveton Park FC Ladies in the quarter-finals of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women's County Cup.

It has been a frustrating time for the Belles, as the weather either side of the festive period was not kind, leading to four postponements due to frozen or waterlogged pitches. In addition, the late withdrawal by Millmoor Ladies from the County Cup tie last week means it will be seven weeks since Belles last played a competitive game, that being the 4-0 home win against Leek Town back on 4th December.

Sunday's County Cup game against Kiveton will therefore be an opportunity for Nick Buxton to get his side back up and running for the busy period of fixtures ahead as well as looking for the club to progress to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2010.

Formed in 2019, opponents Kiveton Park FC Ladies play their football in the Open Age 1 division of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women and Girls League, three tiers lower than the Belles (Tier 7). Kiveton have made great progress since their formation - in their second season they were finalists in the SHWGL Shield competition, and last season finished as runners-up in Open Age 2, thereby securing promotion to Open Age 1.

'Kivo' have made a strong start to this season, and currently sit top of Open Age 1 on seventeen points after eight games, with five wins, two draws and one defeat. The Ladies are also on an unbeaten six game run, having to show resilience and dig deep to come back from 0-2 down to win 5-2 against Rotherham United Whitehill last Sunday - a result that took them into the quarter-finals of the SHWGL Cup.

To reach the quarter-finals of this season's County Cup, Kivo received a bye in the First Round, beat Hepworth United 6-0 in the Second Round, and then saw off Brunsmeer Athletic 4-1 in the Third Round. In contrast, Belles entered the competition at the Second Round stage, beating Rotherham United Women 6-0, and then receiving an eventual walkover in the 3rd Round against Millmoor Ladies.

Belles have won the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup on seven occasions, the last time being in the 2009-10 season. Between 2010 and 2018 the First Team did not compete in the competition, with Belles Reserves representing the club instead. Following demotion to the FAWNL in 2018-19, Belles First Team again entered the competition, and a win on Sunday would see the club into the semi-finals for the first time in thirteen years.

The game on Sunday 22nd kicks off at 3pm.
