Doncaster Rovers Belles can confirm that Sam Winch and Alexandre Brito Nogueira have left their positions as manager and head coach.

The decision follows a meeting of the Belles board where there was a unanimous decision that change was required following a disappointing start to the season.

Doncaster Rovers Belles chief executive Chris Wood said: "Without a shadow of a doubt both Sam and Alex have thrown themselves into their roles. However, unfortunately it has become evident in recent weeks that despite their endeavour both the standards of training sessions expected and the results being achieved on the pitch were not in keeping with our expectations.

"As part of our desire to get the Belles back up the football pyramid, at the start of the season we set a number of objectives, both for the team and the club as a whole. With the support we have through Club Doncaster, these objectives were challenging but realistic and included building a team capable of competing for promotion within the next few seasons, improving the pathway for girls from Doncaster to play for the Belles, increasing the size of our fanbase and improving the experience for our supporters.

"With the development of the recently launched Wildcats programme, the increase in season ticket sales, Belles merchandise being available in the club shop for the first time and more games being played at Eco-Power Stadium, it is clear that we are making progress against some of these objectives.

"However, on the pitch it is clear that we are falling short of the standards we were expecting and having spoken with the players, they were supportive of the decision the Belles board have made.

"As we now set our focus on replacing Sam and Alexandre, in the interim Belles ETC Centre manager Shaun Hird will lead the first team, supported by former Belles manager Paul Edmunds, who will take an advisory role.

"Paul will be well-known to most, if not all, Belles supporters as the most celebrated coach in Belles history with one Premier League title and four FA Cup wins."
