Rovers take on promotion chasing Hull City at the Keepmoat Stadium in Sky Bet League One this weekend.
Darren Moore’s side were narrowly beaten at home to Accrington Stanley last time out.
Hull’s recent form
The Tigers have won two of their past six league game stretching back to a defeat at Accrington Stanley on January 26. They then beat Swindon Town 1-0 at the KCOM Stadium before being beaten at relegation threatened Burton Albion.
A goalless draw against Lincoln City followed, before they lost 1-0 at home to MK Dons. They got back to winning ways in their last outing, hammering Wigan Athletic 5-0 at the DW Stadium.
The man in charge
Grant McCann left Rovers to join Hull in the summer of 2019. He enjoyed success in his only season at the Keepmoat Stadium, guiding the club to the Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final, before taking over as head coach at the KCOM Stadium soon after. After a positive start to last season, McCann’s side were relegated from the Championship, with the aim this time around for an immediate return to the second tier. He has now taken charge of 90 Hull games, winning 34, drawing 19 and losing 37, giving him an overall win percentage of 37.8%.
Ones to watch
George Honeyman
The 26-year-old midfielder began his career at Sunderland and went on to play more than 80 times for the club after coming through the system at the Stadium of Light. Honeyman was a key player for the Black Cats before making the move to Hull in the summer of 2019.
He played 44 times in his debut season at the club, before backing that up with another 32 appearances so far in this campaign. He has chipped in with three league goals so far, with the most recent coming in the victory at Portsmouth last month.
Mallik Wilks
Wilks is well known to Rovers fans after his exploits while on loan with the club in the 2018/19 season. Having arrived on loan from Leeds United, the winger scored 16 goals in 55 appearances and became a real fans favourite as the club secured a play-off place. He joined Barnsley on a permanent deal at the end of that campaign, but struggled to make an impact at Oakwell and joined the Tigers on loan in January 2020 in a move which saw him re-united with Grant McCann. He made the move permanent last summer and is one of the league’s leading marksmen with 12 goals.
Keane Lewis-Potter
A product of the Hull academy, Lewis-Potter made his debut for the club in an Emirates FA Cup tie against Millwall in January 2019. Last season was something of a breakthrough one for the striker, who featured 22 times under Grant McCann, scoring twice in the Sky Bet Championship.
The drop down in level has helped the 19-year-old to find his feat further in the EFL, and he has already scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season. He recently signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2023.
Last time out
Hull came out on top when the two sides last met back in December at the KCOM. Josh Magennis had given the home side the lead at half-time, before Tyreece John-Jules looked to have secured Rovers a point late on. That was until Tom Eaves popped up to secure all three points for the Tigers.
