Chairman to open the batting

2 August 2012

Doncaster Rovers’ chairman John Ryan will be leading a Rovers team out to the crease this    Sunday (5tAugust) at Doncaster Town Cricket Club, Bennetthorpe, for the annual T20 Cricket Challenge Match.

Swashbuckling  opening batsman Ryan will be joined by the Rovers manager Dean Saunders, along with other members of the coaching and playing squad, as the Rovers attempt to avenge their 4 runs defeat of last year at the Town Field Cricket Ground.

It should prove to be an exciting affair for spectators, with the Rovers boasting a ‘secret weapon’ amongst the crop of new signings which the manager has made.

The action begins at 2pm, with facilities open to the public from 12 midday. The entry fee for spectators is £1, and car parking will be available at a cost of £5 for the day. Food will be available from the terrace BBQ, and additional refreshments from within the clubhouse. Music and match commentary will also add to the spectacle, and after the match there will be the customary auction of the Rovers players’ signed cricket shirts.

The venue provides an ideal setting for a family day out, and the Rovers’ players are hoping for a big turn out of support from their fans as they swap their boots for bat and ball in this entertaining ( and sometimes laughable) exhibition of sporting prowess.
