O’Connor Joins Derby County

1 August 2012

Doncaster Rovers can confirm that defender James O’Connor has joined Derby County on a 2 year deal, with an option for a third year, after the two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee, subject to registration.

O’Connor joined Rovers, from Sean O’Driscoll’s Bournemouth, in 2006 on a three year contract after catching the eye of then manager Dave Penney.  He quickly became a fans favourite establishing himself as one of the best attacking full-backs in the league.

O’Connor played a vital part in Rovers Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Victory at the Millennium Stadium in 2007 and was named ‘Man of the Match’ in the League One Play-Off Final win over Leeds United at Wembley the following season.

In Rovers 2009/10 season in the Championship O’Connor was named ‘Player of the Season’ after a succession of impressive performance at both right-back and centre-back, he even managed to score a winning goal against Sheffield United much to the delight over the travelling fans.

Last season James scaled up Machu Picchu in Peru in aid of the NSPCC and helped raise over £50,000 along with other members of the playing and backroom staff

Everyone at Doncaster Rovers would like to thank James for his time at the club, and wish him all the best for the future.
