Doncaster Rovers are disappointed that this afternoon’s game against MK Dons was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

The situation deteriorated rapidly between 11am and 12noon with over 3mm of rain falling and a further 18mm forecast.

Every effort was made throughout the week to ensure that the fixture would go ahead as planned. Andy Thompson and his ground staff worked tirelessly to ensure the surface was clear of standing water.

During the week the pitch was aerated and chemicals were applied to disperse of any standing water. This process seemed to be successful, however the increased rainfall between 11am and 12noon over saturated the pitch with the groundstaff unable to clear the excess water.

There was no planned pitch inspection, however when the referee arrived at the ground at his normal time, 11.50am, he went out to inspect the pitch and after consulting both managers decided to call the game off on the grounds of the players’ health and safety due to a rapidly deteriorating pitch with no sign of any improvement in the weather.
