Captain Rob Jones spoke to Rovers Player ahead of the visit of MK Dons and revealed that he was looking for an instant response to defeat last weekend.
“We’ve got a good group of players here and every time we’ve had a defeat or a tough spell they’ve responded well so hopefully we can do that this weekend,” he said.
“There isn’t an easy game in this league, whether you’re sat top or bottom of the league, anybody can beat anybody else. Nothing goes on merit in this division you have to work hard in every individual game – if you work hard enough, like we have for most of the season, you reap the rewards.
“It’s up to us now to get back to the way we have been playing and the way that has got us to where we are.
“We’re a team that is resolute, we defend from the front very well and last week that just wasn’t there. I think we have just got to put it down as one of those days - It’s up to us now to respond from that at the weekend.
“It was one of those games where you speak about it afterwards; things are said but you have to respond on the pitch, talking is only half the battle you can talk as much as you want but if you don’t respond on the pitch then you’ve got problems.”
The team currently sit just one point behind joint league leaders Tranmere Rovers and Brentford and Jones admitted that it was no surprise to him considering the players at the club.
“It’s no surprise to me because of the talents that we have in the dressing room.
“We have an abundance of very good players and an abundance of experience so it’s no surprise. It’s up to us now as individuals and as a collective group to continue that. The season is far from over and we’re in a position now where we can kick on – who knows where that will take us with 25 games to go.
“There’s still a lot of points to play for so we can’t just rest on our laurels and say we’ve done well for the first half of the season and peter out. That’s not what we’re here for or what we’re about, what we want to do is kick on and make the second half of the season better than the first.
“We have an abundance of players that want to work hard for each other, work hard for the gaffer, work hard for the football club and work hard for the supporters. There’s also an abundance of talent in the dressing room too – if you put both them ingredients together you have got every chance.
“The season we’ve had so far has been fantastic; we’ve won an awful lot of games and worked extremely hard and we’ve moved this club forward again which was a big task.
“If the winter period goes well, fantastic, if it doesn’t go so well there’s still an awful lot of games to go - It’s up to us to keep ourselves in a good position going into the run in.
“I’m enjoying playing, like any footballer put him on a pitch and he will enjoy himself, but it’s not about me it’s about Doncaster Rovers and the group of players here who work hard for each other, who want to go places and get this club moving forward again.”
