Rovers Light Up Doncaster

3 December 2012

Doncaster Deaf Trust officially marked the start of the festive season in style with its annual light switch on this week with a little help from Doncaster Rovers.

Special guests, Martin Woods and Sammy Clingan, from Rovers, joined nursery children, school pupils and college students for the big countdown.

Nursery twins Seth and Lucas Hart joined the football duo and helped to press the button to switch on the 2000 sparkling lights.

Bobbie Roberts, chair of trustees said: “This was a wonderful event and we are pleased that Martin and Sammy could come and join us for the switch on.

“Each year one, or in this case two, of our children help to light up Doncaster Deaf Trust and we were thrilled that the Hart boys could take this year’s honour with the Doncaster Rovers players.

“Guests enjoyed a mug of mulled tea and a mince pie as the got into the festive spirit.”

Each year the lights are a stunning spectacle for both residents of Doncaster and those just visiting, and seem to get bigger and better every time. The display includes both curtain and rope lights with a huge star centre piece.

Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Rovers said: “We are delighted that we could support this event. Working closely with the local community is extremely important to us and Doncaster Deaf Trust is a fantastic asset for our town.”
