Manager Dean Saunders was happy with the way his side preformed against Grimsby Town last night.
David Syers set the ball rolling slotting in at the far post before Chris Brown and David Cotteril each found the back of the net from the penalty spot to secure a 3-0 first half scoreline.
‘First half i thought we played really well,’ he said
‘I tried a few different combinations to see how different players coped with different roles and I was pleased with what I saw.
‘We kept the ball really well which was good but it was just nice to have Tommy [Spurr], Copps and Jim [O’Connor] back.
‘We gave the ball away too many times in the second half, but fair play to Grimsby they didn’t buckle under pressure and put up a good fight. These types of games give you an opportunity to iron out problem before the season kicks off.
‘We conceded two scrappy goals, but the main thing was that we came out of the game with no injuries.
‘The pitch was nice, it rained before the game which helped us move the ball round, I think we have improved from Saturday which is what you look to do game by game - we’ve got another game now on Saturday to look forward to.
‘All in all I thought their attitude was spot on, everybody worked hard which is all you can ask for.
‘We’re going to have two good training sessions now, on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the game against Bradford [Park Avenue].
‘We’ve got fourteen outfield players; the last thing you want is a couple of injuries to leave us even shorter than we are. I’m working everyday to try and get players in; I’m on the phone speaking to various people daily.’
