Goals Galore On The Menu At The Keepmoat

19 November 2012

If a game packed full of goals is what you’re after then get down to the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend when Rovers take on Scunthorpe United.

The average number of goals over the last five games against the Iron is over 4 goals per game, with 22 goals being scored in total and 14 of them for Rovers.  In fact in front of our own supporters at the Keepmoat, Rovers have scored nine goals in their last three games against the Iron.

The game has such a history of goals that you have to go all the way back to September 1979 to find the last time that the game ended without either side scoring a goal.

Back in April 2010 Rovers netted four times against Scunthorpe in arguably the most memorable encounter between the sides in recent years.

After initially going behind to a Gary Hooper goal, Rovers took a one goal lead into the break thanks to goals from loan men Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Jordan Mutch.

The Iron restored parity through Paul Hayes before James Hayter restored Rovers lead. Hooper netted his second and the Iron’s third goal with just six minutes remaining and the game looked destined to end on level terms.

Shelton Martis popped up to score an 89th minute winner to Scunthorpe hearts and secure all three points for Rovers.
