Preview: Carlisle United (A)

20 November 2012

Carlisle United are the opponents for this evenings League One encounter at Brunton Park and Rovers will be looking to continue the impressive away form shown already this season.

With six wins recorded away from the Keepmoat, in the league, Rovers boast one of the best away records in the division having only lost once on their travels.

Carlisle, however, have been struggling of late and the 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Leyton Orient show just how cruel this league can be.

The Cumbrians have only managed to record victory twice, in the league, at Brunton Park this season and defeat at the hands of Orient on Saturday piled more misery on manager Greg Abbott.

After that defeat Abbott spoke of the performance and labeled it ‘the worst I have seen’.

“It’s another difficult one for us all to accept,’ he told the Carlisle Official Website

“The first 45 minutes of the game was the worst that I’ve seen ... and not just as a coach or as a manager but from my playing time as well. It was so far below the levels that everybody is looking for that it makes it very difficult to try to explain why it happened. We talk about staying in the game if we concede a goal, but we didn’t get anywhere near that.”

Rovers manager Dean Saunders spoke to Rovers Player ahead of the game and praised the way that his players have approached games

“The effort at the moment, the way they have stuck together and the spirit they are showing is excellent.

“We’ve only let five goals in away from home, sometimes you feel obliged that you have to take the game to teams, but we can’t go away from doing things we do well - you have to carry on doing the ‘dirty’ side of the game aswell.”

Team News:
Dean Saunders is hoping that defender Paul Quinn will be given the all clear to feature in the game.

Jamie McCombe has recovered from a fracture in his back and has resumed training however will not feature.

Kyle Bennett will once again miss out on the game as he recovers from a knee injury.
