Rovers face Oldham Athletic, for the second time in a week, on Saturday in the 2nd round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.

Rovers progressed through to the second round after a home victory against Bradford Park Avenue, and were subsequently drawn to play Oldham Athletic at Boundray Park just days after the re-arranged home league game.

The league game on Tuesday evening ended in victory for Rovers which lifted Dean Saunders men to joint top of npower League One. David Cotterill’s quickly-taken second half free-kick secured the point for Rovers and extended the current winning streak to four games.

An even first half saw the sides go in at the break on level terms. Rovers came out for the second period looking to take an early advantage, however had to wait until the 69th minute to make the break through. Rovers dominated the play for much of the second half and held on to seal the three points and continue the fantastic form which has seen the team rise to joint league leaders.

The victory against Oldham has seen Rovers claim seventh position in the Football League Power Rankings behind the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. Click HERE for the full table.

From the Training Ground:
Dean Saunders:
“We beat Bradford Park Avenue, which was a bit of a banana skin tie for us and the reward was Oldham in this round but the rewards after this round could be massive for us.

“This competition is one of the streams of revenue, so it’s important for the club but it’s also really important for the players and their careers. They’ve got a chance to show everybody live on TV, if we get a plumb draw, how good a team they are - you have to earn them sorts of draws by beating teams like Oldham.”
