Preview: Scunthorpe United (H)

23 November 2012

Rovers will be looking to build on the two fantastic victories away from home, against Portsmouth and Carlisle United, in this weekend’s local derby against Scunthorpe United.

Rovers took maximum points from last week’s fixtures to continue the fantastic run of results away from home which has seen the side record seven wins from ten games.

Doncaster Rovers have won the last three games played against Scunthorpe United and Dean Saunders’ men will be looking to secure their fourth victory tomorrow. The Iron have failed to take a single point against Rovers since a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park back in September 2009 where they snatched a share of the points in a incident packed game.

The Opposition:
Although recently they have seen an upturn in their away form, the Iron are currently sitting in 23rd position in the league having only managed to record four victories this term.

Manager Brian Laws, who suffered his first defeat since returning to Glanford Park on Tuesday night, will be looking to build on the away form which has seen the Iron stay unbeaten in the last three fixtures.

Laws will be looking to use the upturn in results away from home and try to steer the Iron away from the lowly position they currently find themselves in.

Previous Encounters:
The average number of goals over the last five games against the Iron is over 4 goals per game, with 22 goals being scored in total and 14 of them for Rovers.  In fact in front of our own supporters at the Keepmoat, Rovers have scored nine goals in their last three games against the Iron.

The game has such a history of goals that you have to go all the way back to September 1979 to find the last time that the game ended without either side scoring a goal.

Back in April 2010 we netted four times against Scunthorpe in arguably the most memorable encounter between the sides in recent years.

Last Time Out: (January 1st 2011, keepmoat Stadium)
Rovers – 3 – (Sharp, Hayter, J Mills)
Scunthorpe - 0

Last time out of course at the Keepmoat there could be no doubt in who was the deserved winner, with three goals of scoring prowess for Rovers and no reply from the visiting Iron. Billy Sharp got his eighth goal of the season to open the scoring with James Hayter and loanee Joseph Mills both adding to the total before the break, effectively ending the game as a contest.

Team - Neil Sullivan; James O'Connor, Shelton Martis, Sam Hird, Joseph Mills; James Coppinger, Brian Stock, Mark Wilson, John Oster; James Hayter, Billy Sharp

Team News:
Captain Rob Jones should be available to face his former side after suffering mild concussion in the game against Carlisle United.

Jamie McCombe is back in training having recovered from a hairline back fracture, however will not be available for the game.

Kyle Bennett will miss the game as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

David Prutton could feature for the Iron after serving a three-match suspension.

Loan signing Adda Djeziri could be in line for his debut after joining the club from Blackpool.
