Ball Delighted With Dream Debut

10 October 2012

Striker Jordan Ball made a dream debut against Chesterfield last night scoring the winner moments after entering the field of play.

Ball, who progressed through Rovers youth system, made his first appearance for Rovers replacing the experienced Robbie Blake in the 83rd minute. Showing excellent movement off the ball, Jordan managed to evade the Chesterfield defence and head in his first senior goal with his first touch.

Speaking to Rovers Player after the game, Jordan admitted getting game time was the main aim and the goal was an added bonus.

‘As a striker you obviously want to score, but to be honest it was my first game and I just wanted to get onto the pitch - the goal is a bonus.

‘The goal happened so quickly, Rob Jones went in front of me and I saw there was a little gap and luckily no one followed me. It was a good delivery from Cotts [David Cotterill] and I managed to get on the end of it and stick it away.

‘This week has been a bit weird really. I had been on loan at Belper and that came to an end yesterday. The gaffer told me that I would be involved in the game tonight so I trained with the first team as I usually do during the week.

‘I didn’t really realise that I would be on the bench until about five minutes before kickoff! It took a while to sink in but the nerves didn’t really kick in until I was stood on the touchline next to the gaffer and Brian ready to come on.

‘I got amongst the goals at Belper and really enjoyed it but towards the end of my spell I didn’t really play as much as I wanted to, lucky I could come back here and I got my chance – I really enjoyed it.

‘I want to give a special mention to the fans who were brilliant last night, and to the Rovers Alliance members who have supported all the lads coming up through the youth system to the first team.’
