Dean: 'It Will Be Tough'

23 October 2012

Manager Dean Saunders was in confident mood, when he spoke in front of the Rovers Player cameras, ahead of tonight’s game against Tranmere Rovers.

Rovers are looking to be the first team to record a league victory at Prenton Park, this season, and Dean believes his side have as good a chance as anyone to do so.

‘It’s going to be a tough game against a really good Tranmere team who are scoring goals,’ said Saunders

‘They got beat at Bournemouth, who were lifted by the new manager arriving, which happens so many times in football so they will be looking to bounce back from that.

‘As we proved on Saturday we are a good team and have the ability to win games even when we are not at our best so I think it will be a good game.

The success that Tranmere have had this season doesn’t surprise Dean and is something he puts down to the form of their attack minded players.

‘This league is wide open; if you can put a run of results together you can be up there. They [Tranmere] are scoring goals and that’s the secret! If you’re banging as many goals in as they are every mistake you make is just a consolation goal. Robinson and Akpa Akpro have got seven goals between them and Jake Cassidy has got eight so they’ve got three players there that are on form at the moment.

‘All we can control is how we approach the game, we’re not frightened of playing anybody. We went to Sheffield United, which is probably the hardest game, and came back with a result so we will be going into the game trying to get three points.

‘We’re not going to sit back and take a draw, although it wouldn’t be a disastrous result because both teams will be up there come the end of the season.’
