Rovers Look To Topple Tranmere

23 October 2012

League leaders Tranmere Rovers are the opponents for tonight’s game at Prenton Park.

Tranmere have made their best start to a league season for some time having picked up 30 points already. Ronnie Moore’s men have only one blotch on their almost perfect copy book tasting defeat for the first time this season against a rejuvenated Bournemouth side who marked the return of former player and manager Eddie Howe with an impressive 3-1 victory against the league leaders.

Tranmere’s home form, five wins from six games, has propelled them to the League One summit and they will be looking to continue that almost perfect set of results to overcome the disappointment of last Saturday’s defeat, whilst Doncaster Rovers are looking to be the first team to take maximum points from Prenton Park tonight - six team teams have previously tried and failed.

Tranmere also boast the league’s most potent attack with three of their forwards present in the top five scorers in League One. Loan Striker Jake Cassidy as been in hot form since his loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Welshman has already notched eight league goals this season. Strike partner Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro is one goal behind his tally with seven. Andy Robinson, who is now in his third spell with the Mersyside club, has also notched an impressive seven goals from his midfield position.

Team News:
Striker Iain Hume is in-line to play against his former team, after his successful return to the team against Brentford,  having fulfilling international duties.

Rovers will be without defenders Shelton Martis and Jamie McCombe for the trip.

McCombe will be missing for around a month as he recovers from a hairline fracture in his back, and  Martis will be out for up to three weeks with a pulled groin.

Defender Andy Griffin has signed on non-contract terms and will be available for selection.

Tranmere striker Jake Jervis will miss the game after suffering an ankle injury against Bournemouth last weekend.

Andy Robinson and Joe Thompson will be available after missing out on Saturday.
