Dean Pleased With Resilient Rovers

19 September 2012

Rovers returned from Bramall Lane with a share of the points and manager Dean Saunders was pleased with the resilience the players showed.

‘It’s a good point playing against the biggest team in the league – if you would have offered me a point before the game I would have taken it,’ he said

‘First half I thought we played really well, we had loads of chances early on. Their keeper made two brilliant saves from Martin Woods and Chris Brown early on. I thought we were controlling the game we passed right through them at times. Second half they just went route-one and hit the ball on top of us and tried to pick up the second balls.’

‘We had two wingers out on the pitch and it was probably not the type of game for them, but I left them on as long as possible hoping that we could nick a goal.

‘The two centre back were magnificent they headed everything that was thrown at them away. Jamie McCombe had a header which I thought he was going to score and win the game for us.

‘It was a scrap so I’m just pleased that we kept a clean sheet and the defenders have done what I brought them to the club to do. You don’t get many games in the Championship like that: the players we have got suit this league.’
