Fantastic Flynn

28 April 2013

Brian Flynn will go down in Doncaster Rovers history after guiding his side to the League One Championship.

What an incredible way it was to finish the season; from playoff contenders to Champions within 20 seconds. True to his word Brian Flynn has guided Rovers back to the Championship at the first time of asking. The Rovers' owners will now meet on Tuesday to discuss the managerial position at the club.

Brentford missed the penalty and within seconds the ball broke to Billy Paynter who played in James Coppinger to slot the ball home sparking wild celebrations from the Rovers supporters.

Within one minute, your team could be heading towards the play-offs after leading the table for so long. As the penalty was spotted up Flynn could have been forgiven for expecting the season to be extended for a further two possibly three games, but the never say die attitude shone through again and the rest is history.

Fast-forward to the ninetieth minute of the final game of the season, Rovers are just minutes away from promotion back to the Championship and then the unthinkable happens. The referee points the penalty spot and the whole of the season flashes before your eyes.

The points were secured with a last minute winner from ‘Captain Colossus’, Rob Jones, which further displayed the belief that Flynn had installed into the team.

And what a job he has done! Brian’s Rovers managerial career started with the away victory at Stevenage; a game in which the team showed that never say die attitude, which has been present in so many fixtures this season.

After Dean Saunders left the club to take up the manager’s role at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brian Flynn was pinpointed, by Rovers owners, as the man to secure the Championship for the club.
