Jones: We Need To Put In A Performance

26 April 2013

Captain Rob Jones spoke to Rovers Player ahead of this weekend’s winner takes all promotion game.

Rob admitted that he expected the race for promotion to go down to the wire and that the team is totally focused on the game.

“I think it’s been written for a while now that it would go down to the last game of the season - we just have to get on with it’” he said

“We knocked at the door often enough, last week; it just wouldn’t go in for us. That happens sometimes but it’s done now we have to have total focus on Saturday against Brentford.

“It’s the biggest game of the season; it’s as simple as that. It’s the biggest game for us and it’s the biggest game for them. They have the best home record in the league and we have the best away record in the league so for the neutral I’m sure that it will be a fantastic game to watch.

“We have just got to prepare for the game as much as we possibly can. The result will be dictated by what happens on the day.

“We need to put in a performance, that’s the be all and end all. The game at the Keepmoat was a long time ago and although we nicked it at the end I don’t think you can take anything from that game. It’s an awfully long time ago; personnel have changed, the manager has changed and we’ve come a long way.

“Our total focus is on this game on the weekend not what has happened in the past or what could happen in the future; the focus now is totally on the 90 minutes of football.

“It’s one game, from our point of view, if we win it or get a point we get promoted, if we don’t then we’re in the play-off’s it’s as simple as that.

“We are where we are because of the work rate, desire and determination from individuals and those individuals work very well as part of a team. There’s not a bad one amongst them and there’s not many football clubs that can say that. We have a very good group who work very hard for each other and it shows when we’re out on the pitch.”

On Opponents Brentford Rob said: “We’ve got to give them the respect that they deserve.

“They are where they are because they are a good side. They’ve got good players and we are going onto their patch but our focus is on working extremely hard. As long as we focus on the job in hand hopefully that will be enough.”
