Monday night saw the annual The Star and Green Un Football Awards at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Sheffield.

A glittering array of football personalities were present including Gordon Banks, Mark Lawrenson and Tommy Docherty. Rovers’ captain Rob Jones and Manager Brian Flynn along with Stuart Highfield, Steve Uttley and Lee Butler were all present, at the star studded event, representing Doncaster Rovers.

Managers from all six football clubs that are covered by the newspaper were also in attendance, alongside one of their current playing staff.

The first award that concerned Rovers was the club’s Player of the Year as voted for by the newspaper readers. Captain Rob Jones took the accolade just ahead of Chris Brown and David Cotterill.

Then came the main award; The Star and Green Un Team of the Year 2013. Rovers battled with the other five clubs for the title, and it was Rovers whose name was read out in recognition of how the team have responded to relegation last season to mounting a challenge to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Brian Flynn was called up to accept the award on behalf of the club.
