PD: We Believe We Can Win

16 August 2013

Rovers’ manager Paul Dickov spoke to Doncasterroversfc.co.uk ahead of the visit of Blackburn Rovers.

Paul knows his side will experience a tough test when Blackburn come to town and he puts this down to the influence manager Gary Bowyer has on the team.

However, he is confident his men can overcome their Lancashire rivals.

He said: “They’ve got a manager I know very well in Gary. He’s come in last season and done a fantastic job in what is a difficult situation for him; they’ve got a lot of good players, a lot that can, and have, played in the Premier League that will be a threat to us.

“But we’re confident, it’s a home game and we’re getting better all the time and it’s a game we believe we can win.

“What they have is a man in charge who will settle it down, he knows the club inside out. Gary was the youth team coach when I was there back in 2004 so he’s been there a long time.

“He’s a clever football man and a steady influence on the players. I know the players respect him and want to play for him and that’s probably what they’ve needed.”

Paul went on to pinpoint Jordan Rhodes as one major threat Blackburn posses and admits his side will have to stay switched on the handle the prolific striker.

Dickov added: “Jordan’s a top player, he’s a player that sometimes doesn’t seem like he’s in the game but he has that horrible knack of popping up and grabbing a goal. His movement is fantastic; in and around the box, more often than not, he’ll find the target.

“We know that we’re going to have to defend properly; we know second balls will be important in both boxes.

“Although it’s only the second game of the season, tomorrow night will typify what the Championship is all about.”
