Manager Paul Dickov spoke to Rovers Player ahead of the visit of AFC Rochdale in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
Although defeat against Blackpool disappointed Paul, he spoke about the importance of going into the tie with a clear mind, focusing on the task in hand and building on the positives from the game against Blackpool.
“The players were bright and sharp this morning and I wouldn’t have expected anything less because there were lots of positives on Saturday,” he said.
“Nobody is more disappointed with the final outcome of the game than I, but we have emphasised to the boys that we need to keep doing the right things and the things that we do well – we want to improve all the time.
“After a defeat you don’t want days and days to reflect on it, the best thing about football is that you’ve always got another game to put it right. We can look over a game and learn from it but we can’t affect what has happened, so we learn from it, draw a line under it and try and do the right things against Rochdale.”
Paul admitted that he is expecting a tough evening’s work, and also highlighted the importance of the cup competitions.
“It will be a tough game, Keith (Hill) has put a decent team together. They’ve [Rochdale] had a big turnaround of players. We watched them during the pre-season and we had them watched on Saturday where they picked up a good result, and the one thing that they will do is come here and try and play. We have got to match their work rate and match their enthusiasm, and if we do that we will be ok.
“It’s a home game and we want to win it. The cup competitions are important to the club for lots of reasons; we want to get that first win at home so it is a massively important game for us.
“We believe that we are going in the right direction; we have got some very good players here, and as I said, we are desperate to win the game.”
Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased from the Keepmoat Stadium Ticket Office or by calling the Ticket Hotline on 01302 762576.
