Rovers Striker Alex Peterson spoke to Rovers Player after his first team start against Millwall on Sunday.
How did it feel to get a start on Sunday?
It felt really good and I was so pleased to be included, as the gaffer has always said that if the young lads train and work hard he will give us a chance. He has showed us that he will do this and now it’s my ambition to keep that spot and prove that I can play in the first team.
You have come off the bench a couple of times but his starting a lot different?
It’s quite different because your preparation before the game changes and you have to be prepared better the day before. The gaffer tells you what he expects of you and you have to prepare yourself to match that. When I walked on the pitch at the start I was nervous but also very excited, which is different to being thrown on later in the game. The expectations of you are different and much higher.
How different is playing at this level to what you play in the reserves?
It’s an immense difference as its fast and much more physical than youth games. It’s a lot more competitive and demanding as when you play reserve football, you expect high standards of each other but at this level the whole game is so competitive with much higher standards of footballers you face.
How did you feel you did?
I think I did ok as I felt I did all right when I came on against Ipswich on Boxing Day. I felt confident and feel I did what the manager asked of me by putting myself about and doing what I could for the team. I know I have lots more to learn and I will be working on that during training.
