It ended honours even between Chesterfield youth and Doncaster youth as the sides drew 1-1 at Chesterfield’s youth ground, Cylinders.
Two chances for Doncaster early in the half could have given them the lead as Chesterfield keeper Mason was brought into the action. He saw one effort fly over the bar and he then denied a Rovers strike expertly with a smart save. With both sides missing chances it was 0-0 at half time.
Chesterfield coach Mark Smith’s half time team talk proved to be effective as it only took the young Spireites a minute to go ahead. Mason Coy found space and unleashed a shot, which the Rovers keeper palmed into the path of Hewitt who stroked home to give the Spireites the lead.
Their lead however didn’t last long as the Rovers equalised. Callum Terrell found space in the area and looped a header over the Chesterfield goalkeeper to level the scores. The game finished on all Rovers coming from behind to gain a point.
