Dean: We Should Be Confident

4 January 2013

Manager Dean Saunders spoke to Rovers Player ahead of the visit of Colchester United.

Saunders has gone on record to say that he is looking for the same approach, in this game, as the Sheffield United game on New Year’s Day.

“We’ve got Colchester on Saturday and we’ve got to look forward to that game,”

“I know Colchester have lost seven games on the trot and it will be a club record if they lose eight but they will be coming here trying to put that right.

”We’ve got to make sure that we approach the game exactly how we did for Sheffield United and try and get on top of them.

“You look at Hartlepool beating Sheffield United the other day, and QPR beating Chelsea, not many people would have expected that.

“You’ve got a team there fighting for their lives; they’ve got pride at stake. We might not get the rub of the green or get a bit of bad luck or even refereeing decisions like we had on Tuesday. We have to make sure that we go into the game and we don’t give them anything. We need to ensure that we are really professional in what we do.”

Speaking on the group of players Dean has assembled, the Rovers boss admitted that it is probably the best set that he will ever work with.

“However long I’m in management I won’t get a better group of players than we have got here – they’re all doing great.

“David Syers is an example of that; he could have scored 15 goals this season. I left him out of the team to give him a rest and he’s come back and got three goals in three games - I wouldn’t be surprised if he got ten in ten the way he is going.

“He’s worked hard every day in training and not moaned when he’s not been playing and neither have the rest that haven’t been in the team.

“The players are all together as a group, they’ve all got the belief and they’re all unselfish too.

When asked whether the team have reason to be confident going into the game Dean said;

“We’re on a really good run at the minute; we’ve lost just one game in the last nine so we should be confident really.

“We’ve won a lot of games convincingly and we’ve not let many goals in, especially away from. Next week we’ve got the chance to break the club record for games unbeaten away from home so that’s something to look forward to as well.”
