Promotion goal hero James Coppinger spoke exclusively to Rovers Player about his pre-season so far, and his anticipation of the game against Motherwell.
Coppinger’s last minute goal against Brentford on the final day of last season secured Rovers’ instant return to the Championship.
James admitted that it was a great feeling going away on holiday after earning promotion back to the second tier of English football: “It’s always nice to get on your holidays when you have won the league,” he said.
“The closed season has gone very quickly but I’m glad to be back in training.”
Although he missed the games at Frickley and Retford through illness, James admitted that he was excited for the next couple weeks as the league season draws closer.
“I’ve been off for the last week with food poisoning but the first week was tough. It takes time to get your match fitness so it’s about getting games under your belt; I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks as we get closer to the season.”
Rovers face Motherwell in the only pre-season friendly game at the Keepmoat, and James revealed that along with the rest of the squad he is looking forward to playing the Scottish Premier League team.
“Pre-season is all about fitness; games like the Rossington games are important for that reason but it’s Saturday’s game against Motherwell which will really test us.
“We’re all looking forward to getting back to the Keepmoat and playing in front of the home fans.”
