Injury Update

30 July 2013

Doncaster Rovers first team physiotherapist Alex Dalton gave doncasterroversfc.co.uk an update on the injury situation at the club.

Currently, three members of the Rovers first team squad are unavailable for selection due to injury. Defender Jamie McCombe, and midfielders Marc De Val and Harry Forrester are all nursing injuries, and Alex gave an update on the three individuals.

Jamie McCombe:

“Jamie is in a back brace at the moment and will remain so for the next three months.

“For the foreseeable future it is relatively light duties with very little exertion, which will give every chance for the stress fracture to heal.

“After the three months he will be re-scanned to see exactly where he is at in the recovery process. If the news is positive then we will start to get him match fit which, with him being out for so long, will take a little while longer”.

Marc De Val Fernandez
“Marc has a high grade two tear of the medial collateral ligament in his knee. He is in a knee brace at the moment and will continue to be for the next few weeks.

“The total duration for his recovery will be around 12 weeks, and at the moment we are about three weeks into that process. His rehab is progressing quite slowly at the moment and limiting him to what he can do, but he is moving forward.

“At about the ten week mark we will really start to increase his functional levels. He will start ball work and carry on with that for two weeks to ensure that there is no reaction.

“Depending on the reaction he does have, after 12 weeks we would like him to be back out training.”

Harry Forrester
“Harry has a syndesmotic tear, which is a tear in the ligament in-between the tibia and fibula. It’s not a straightforward injury to manage and we are expecting him to be out for at least another four weeks.

“He is progressing and has started biking, rowing and cross training; we are hoping to get him into the pool jogging in the next couple of days and we will take it from there.”
