Jones: Goalkeeper Position Is Key

Captain Rob Jones told that the position of goalkeeper is key to the success any team can achieve.

Rovers are without a number one ‘keeper after the departure of Neil Sullivan last week, and Rob spoke about the importance of recruiting the right character to fill the void that has been left.

“The position of goalkeeper is key to any team and I know the gaffer is working really hard in trying to bring in the type of ‘keeper that not only will compliment the squad but also will help the players in front of him using his experience.

“All defenders like to have a keeper that they can work well with and understand, but that only comes with working together over a period of time. That in turn breeds confidence between your keeper and the defensive unit.

“A defensive unit works best when they are confident in each other’s game and know the individuals strength and weaknesses, as well as being able to read what your team mate is going to do in any given situation on the pitch.

“Any back four is happy when they have a keeper they can rely on and are comfortable with playing in front of.”
