National Citizen Service Needs you!

16 July 2013

The National Citizen Service and Doncaster Rovers Foundation are bringing 4,000 free volunteering hours to the Town by giving 16 and 17 years olds a summer to remember!

The Doncaster Rovers Foundation have teamed up with the National Citizen Service (NCS) to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will help young people build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.

The NCS is an exciting chance to do something different during the summer holidays and is open to all young people in Doncaster aged between 16 and 17.

The youngsters from Doncaster will join with thousands of other people of the same age and take part in different outdoor activities, develop skills, learn new things and help the local community as well as making lots of new friends.

National Citizen Service will take place during the summer when both Year 11’s and Year 12’s have finished school for the holidays.  NCS  includes two weeks away from home, one week in either the Lake District or North Yorkshire and one week at Kingswood Dearne Valley. Participants will then be given the opportunity to design, plan and deliver their own project in the local community when they return from their outdoor adventure, with the help of Doncaster Rovers Foundation. Places on the project are very limited so anyone who is interested in getting involved should contact Jan Budtz at the

Doncaster Rovers Foundation on 01302 764663 or email jan.budtz@doncasterroversfoundation.co.uk as soon as possible.

Jan Budtz, Doncaster Rovers Foundation Community Officer, said: “The National Citizen Service really will be the experience of a lifetime and we are pleased to be involved.

“The young people will be working in teams and will have the chance to take part in exciting outdoor activities like climbing, mountaineering, kayaking and abseiling.

“We have already had lots of interest in the initiative and everyone seems very positive about taking part.

“We have had lots of support from Doncaster Rovers FC and James Coppinger is now the Rovers Ambassador for the NCS Programme.

“I really would encourage 16 and 17 year olds across the Borough to get involved with the NCS and make it an extra special summer.”
