Manager Paul Dickov told Rovers Player that he thought that his side finished the game against Motherwell the strongest.
It was the first time that Dickov had taken charge of Rovers at Keepmoat Stadium and he admitted that as the game progressed his players started to get a foothold in it.
“It was a really good workout for us,” he said
“I’m pleased how it went; we were playing against a good side who are a little bit ahead of us pre-season wise. In reflection of the game I thought we finished the stronger.
“First half we had decent possession at times without moving the ball quickly; we took too many touches. Second half we moved it a bit quicker and looked a lot more of a threat.
“We’re getting there; it is going to take time but what you don't want to do is peak too early.
“We’ve still got three weeks until the season starts and slowly but surely we are getting our pattern and philosophy, of how we want to do things, in to them [players].
“There were times in the second half where I thought we moved the ball really well and we had a few attempts on goal. First half we kept the ball but didn’t really pass it with any real intent or purpose, which goes hand in hand with not having enough attempts on goal.
“We sat down at half time and spoke to them, we knew it was a hot day, that the pitch would be a bit sticky and that we were playing against better opposition [then the previous three games] but that still wasn’t good enough - we want to keep our standards high.”
