Rovers had a good good workout today in a competitive friendly against good Portuguese opposition Portimonense.
Rovers took the lead in the 36th minute through James Coppinger’s shot at the back post after a good build up and a cross from Mark Duffy. Portimonense equalised in the 72nd minute.
Billy Paynter scored the winner in the 88th minute from a David Cotterill pass from Dave Syers flick on.
Paul Dickov was pleased with the performance “Things worked on in training had started to look a lot better today. The passing and movement particularly of the front four was very pleasing and with the chances we created had we been more clinical we should have been more comfortable winners. The fitness of the players is also looking good and some days they have been having 3 training sessions a day and that will now continue till we return home”
