Preview: MK Dons (A)

5 March 2013

Rovers opponents are Mk Dons for this evening’s npower League One encounter at stadium:MK.

Saturday saw Brian Flynn’s Rovers sweep aside an improving Hartlepool side who are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the league table. That 3-0 victory ensured Rovers held on to top spot ahead of local rivals Sheffield United.

The performance on Saturday against the Pools was one that manager Brian Flynn can take many positives from with the Rovers dominating from start to finish. The score line flattered the opponents who had goalkeeper Scott Flinders to thank for keeping the score respectable with a string of fine saves.

MK Dons come in to this evening’s re-arranged fixture having not won a game in the league since their impressive victory over Premier League QPR in the FA Cup with Budweiser.

League form suffered after that victory with the next three games ending in defeats or Karl Robinson’s men. The Dons last three fixtures all ended in 1-1 draws.

Rovers have yet to lose against MK Dons, home or away and boast a 100% win record against The Dons on their own patch, winning the two games played in Buckinghamshire, 1-0 and 3-2.
Stat AttackThe last game between the sides at the Keepmoat was the first time that Rovers have failed to score against the Dons.

MK have never taken the lead in a game against Rovers in any of the previous meetings and have only managed to score three goals in the five meetings between the two teams. Rovers, on the other hand, have scored eight goals against their opponents in just five games.

Buckinghamshire has been a happy place for Rovers to visit in the past and The Dons won’t relish the arrival of the visitors.
Previous Encounters

There has only been five meetings between the sides prior to this one, three in Doncaster and two in Milton Keynes with Rovers taking the victory in both games played at the home of The Dons.

Manager Brian Flynn has confirmed that midfielder David Syers will be out action for at least 2 weeks after picking up an ankle injury against Shrewsbury Town.
Team News

December 10th 2005 was the last time the sides met at but it was at the former home of the Dons, the National Hockey Stadium, and it was a very satisfying trip for Rovers. Three goals scored and three points gained as Dave Penney’s men ran out victors despite a valiant attempted fight back from the home side.

Paul Keegan looks to be missing for the rest of the season, whilst Brian confirmed that he will be speaking to Everton about extending John Lundstram’s loan deal until the end of the season.

MK Dons are waiting on winger Ryan Harley after he missed their game against Preston because of a neck injury.

Dean Bowditch is hoping for a start after a groin problem, but Alan Smith serves the last of a four-game ban.

It’s now five unbeaten for Rob Jones and the boys and they take on a Dons team who are without a win in eight and have dropped in the bottom half of the table, though they do have a couple of games in hand. Saturday’s stalemate with Preston at the Stadium:mk was their third 1-1 draw in a row. A similar score line against Rovers can be backed at 11/2, while the draw is 5/2.
