Pride of Doncaster Ben Parkinson will today receive his Military MBE after being named in the Queen’s New Years Honours to receive the award.
Lance Bombardier Parkinson of the Royal Regiment of Artillery is the most severely disabled soldier to survive his injuries.
After losing both legs to a Taliban landmine, Ben was told by doctors that he would never walk again. In his determination to prove them wrong, Ben made a promise to former manager Dean Saunders that if Rovers were to win promotion back to the Championship the pair would walk to the centre circle together to deliver the matchball.
Although Dean was no longer at the club, Doncaster Rovers honoured this promise and ahead of the final home game of the season Ben defied the odds by delivering the matchball at a packed Keepmoat Stadium.
Doncaster Rovers Football club would like to extend its congratulations to Ben and his family on receiving his Military MBE.
