Scholars Sign On!

21 May 2013

Rovers Head of Youth, Paul Wilson, and Youth Team Manager Paul Stancliffe welcomed today (Tuesday) 6 new scholars for the Youth team ahead of the 2013/14 season.

The young players, who join the youth squad, will be training full time as well as studying at Doncaster College. Some have come through the Rovers Academy whilst others have joined from other clubs’ academies (Watford and Hull City).

The lads have signed the registration forms needed by the Football League and FA before undertaking medicals and cardiac screening. This was followed by an induction at Doncaster College.

Paul Stancliffe said: “This is the most important day in any young footballer’s life, as they sign their first apprenticeship forms ahead of the new season. This is when the hard work starts; they begin to train full time and start to feature in the squad.

“Some of the lads have come through our academy, and know the staff they will work with, but others will have come through other clubs’ systems, they will still have a good idea of what to expect.

“These lads will complement the lads who have been very successful this season, finishing 2nd in the League.”

Doncaster Rovers would like to thank our Rovers Alliance members who have generated over £75,000 towards youth development. This has contributed to the success of the youth team, who won the Alliance Cup in 2012 and were runners up 2013. It has also enabled Doncaster Rovers to sign 5 youth team players to the first team last season, including first team regular James Husband and goalkeeper Jonathan Maxted.

The Rovers Alliance is packed full of benefits for members, including 5% discount on season tickets, 2 pairs of free tickets to a Rovers game (clubs choice), entry into the weekly Rovers lottery giving you the chance to win £500 each week as well as entry into the annual £10,000 alliance jackpot draw and regular prize draws for money can’t buy experiences/prizes.
