Will Paul Dickov bring in a centre half this week after news of Rob Jones two months out injured was announced today.
Once again Rovers find themselves in the centre half injury problem that has blighted the club over the past few years with Rob Jones joining Jamie McCombe on the physio’s injury list. Manager Paul Dickov now has only the two young lads Liam Wakefield and Luke McCullough available to play along side Bongani Khumalo in the centre of defence.
Northern Ireland U21 international Luke (McCullough) was taken out of the reserve game at Mansfield on Monday as a precaution after stepping in for Rob Jones before the Brighton game. The last minute change due to Rob’s injury threw young McCullough into the fray and he did not embarrass himself along side Khumalo against a strong Brighton forward line.
Manager Dickov has indicated today that his priority is to bring in a loan centre half and was working on this today (Wednesday). If this is not possible and with the international break following the game, we may see McCullough line up at Barnsley on Saturday. Paul (Dickov) indicated today that it is not a straightforward task to bring players in, as there are clubs, agents and the player to get to agree to move even for a loan, which can take time. Although he has targets and connections at other clubs it could take time to get the right player in who can fill the role the side needs ahead of the game on Saturday.
