PD: I Expect Some Late Fitness Calls

22 November 2013

Paul spoke to Rovers Player and told of his disbelief at the current amount of injuries to the squad.

Paul said; “A few of the lads are struggling for Friday night and I expect some late fitness calls on them. One or two of them may be serious which could mean they miss the game and Charlton but we will assess this over the next few days.

"I’m keeping me fingers crossed as we wait for results to come in for them. We have had a thread bare squad in this week with internationals away and injuries, so we have wrapped the others in ‘cotton wool’ to make sure we lose no more players. What this does though is give other players the chance to come in if a player is not fit.

“What is frustrating is that if they were all one sort of injury we could pinpoint why but they have been necks, backs, shoulders, ankles etc. I have not known a run like this since I have been a manager and as a player. Just innocuous things are taking players out which is frustrating but hopefully we can bring one of two in to help get through this.

“A big positive for me is that Khumalo and Furman have both come back fit today from South Africa where Bongani got 45 minutes and Dean played 96 minutes, which disappointed me as I had hoped their manager would not have played him the full game. Fortunately they have both come back fit and are buzzing after such a big win over Spain, which hopefully will boost their confidence ahead of Yeovil".
