Last season, 10 Alliance members including Peter Brookes won the training ground experience prize draw and detailed below is Peter’s account of the day;

What an excellent and well organised visit to the DRFC Training Facility at Cantley Park. We were taken for a tour of the facilities, which really are excellent and it’s clear that the well kited out Gym is very well used indeed.  The training ground, or should I say grounds, are excellent and easily as good as any football pitch in the league so the ground keeping staff clearly do an excellent job.  Everyone there was very friendly and all took time to talk to us and make us feel welcome, especially Dean who, when he saw us, came straight over for a chat with us – I hadn’t expected that.

Then the players came out and we were able not only to watch them train, but also to freely take photographs of them training, (we had been advised earlier to bring a camera).  And they did train too, very hard; and it’s easy to see how this new squad is now starting to knit together well; with Dean barking out orders if things weren’t being done the way he wanted.

Hospitality continued with lunch, (I’d love to get hold of the recipe for that Carrot and Coriander soup they make – truly scrumptious and so warming on such a cold day), and then it was back out to watch more of the training.

When the players came off at the end of training they were all more than happy to come over and chat and have their photographs taken with us, and what a great bunch of lads they are too – brilliant!!!!  And the icing on the cake was when Dean came over for a further chat and to have his pic taken with us too.

All in all, an excellent visit, and it was great to see what goes on behind the scenes and how much hard work these guys all put in.  If you get the opportunity to take this visit then do so, you won’t regret it.  I’ve heard on a number of occasions that when potential signings see our facilities they are eager to join us, well having seen it in action it’s clear to see why.

Many thanks Jade, for organising the visit and to all at Rovers for their excellent hospitality.
