Rovers Official website caught up with Fitness Coach Ben Rome whilst he put Marc de Val through his paces as he steps up his injury rehab.
Ben explained the process in the injury management and how Marc is progressing.
“Marc has done all his rehabilitation and work with Alex Dalton in the physio room, so he has been handed over to me to have a little pre-season,” he explained.
“We are now working on his conditioning before we throw him back into the arena with the rest of the squad.
“We have to work on his sharpness and endurance because he has had a knee brace on for a period of time and has not been able to do any running.
“Today’s session was really about finding out where he is fitness wise. We tested him with the rest of the squad early in pre-season, so we know what level he was at back then and we can now assess how far he is behind the rest he is.”
“We will be working on fine tuning his fitness to get him where he was before the Motherwell game. For Marc it has been like his first day of pre-season; he did a couple of runs with Alex today and a couple with me yesterday.
“Today we started the intense fitness training which will take about two to three weeks and then hopefully he will be introduced back to the squad for normal training.
“For the past couple of days he has done a little work with the rest of the squad on passing drills but nothing that involves contact. This is all part of integrating him back with the lads for the passing and technical side of training.
“The more we can build him up the better for when he fully starts back with the rest”
