A sunny, warm autumn afternoon awaited the Rovers at Hillsborough today.

Rovers made one change to their starting line-up, with Paul Quinn replacing the injured Reece Wabara.

Wednesday made four changes to their starting line-up after the heavy defeat at Birmingham.

Rovers defended the Leppings Lane end in the first half.

The home team got the game underway but whilst both teams were sounding each other out play was very scrappy, with little or no cohesive play from either side.

Past the quarter hour and a corner to both sides came to nothing.

The home team were shading possession but there were more fouls than shots on goal.

Just before the half hour Nuhiu tried to take advantage of a slip in front of goal by Jones but scooped the ball wide whilst on the ground.

Past the half hour and Wednesday blazed a shot high over the bar from distance.

Successive corners to the home team were successfully dealt with by the Rovers and cleared.

In the 42nd minute a Rovers attack down the middle went out to the left for Brown, who won a corner.

This came out of the home defence and a quick counter attack down the home right came to nothing when the cross brought an ineffective shot that Turnbull saved.

The home team enjoyed the better of the possession but never looked like scoring.

Rovers brought Coppinger on at the start of the second half but the home team got in an early strike when Nuhiu shot wide from 25 yards.

In the 52nd minute, a free kick to Rovers on the left, was placed to the far post by Keegan for Jones but he headed into the side-netting.

Then a good Rovers build-up brought a corner from which Khumalo’s header was saved by Kirkland.

Minutes later, following a throw-in to the Wednesday near the right corner flag Nuhiu had a chance but his shot was blocked on the line.

Successive corners to the home team came to nothing then a cross from the right by McPhail to the far post brought a header from Llera but it was blocked on the goal-line by Turnbull at the foot of the post.

In the 66th minute, Cotterill played the ball down the line on the left for Macheda, who took it to the byline but his cross was blocked.

The deadlock was then broken in the 71st minute when Husband fed Coppinger on the left. His cross to the middle was headed into the net by MACHEDA.

Rovers were now on their game and another link-up on the left by Coppinger, Brown and Macheda gave the latter the chance to shoot but he put wide of the far post.

The home team tried to hit back but the Rovers had got their togetherness back and nullified their efforts.

In the 82nd minute, a corner to the home team was headed off the line at the far post by Keegan.

Minutes later and a free kick to the Rovers was put to the near post where Wellens had a double bite at trying to get it past Kirkland, but was foiled.

Into added time and following a corner to the Wednesday in which Kirkland had gone up for, the ball was cleared out to Duffy, who had a go from 60yards for the empty net but put wide.
