Rovers took the lead in the 13thminute against the run of play but GORDON did really well by holding off the attentions of a much bigger player as he made for goal and despite a couple of players trying to take the ball off him he slipped it past the keeper into the net.
A couple of minutes later and Head hit a terrific drive that came back out off a post. In the 20th minute the United equalised when the referee penalised the Rovers for a handball in the area. The United captain, SCARISBRICK converted the penalty kick giving McLaren in the Rovers goal no chance.
United then took the lead on the half hour when Scarisbrick got forward from right back and hit a thunderous drive that was blocked on the goal-line and spun into the air, with WRIGHT bundling the ball over the line. In the 42nd minute, the visitors went further ahead when WRIGHT slotted in following a free kick from the right.
Rovers had a fair amount of play in the first half and came out for the second half with some determination. In the 51st minute they pulled a goal back when, following a free kick from their right, MEADE got on the end of it and slotted into the net.
The 57th brought equality in the scoreline when MIDDLETON fired into the net. They then had the temerity to take the lead, much to the United officials dismay, in the 64th minute when Middleton placed a corner kick into the middle for MEADE to head into the net.
Substitutions were then the order of the day but the Rovers were playing well enough to keep their lead. However, in the 90th minute, they were penalised and a foul given just outside the penalty area on the United right. KEDMAN took the kick and it flew into the far top corner of the Rovers net. It was the last kick of the game.
