Scouting Report: Burnley

30 September 2013

Rovers Official Website caught up with Brian Flynn ahead of our Sky Bet Championship game against Burnley tomorrow evening.

“I have seen them [Burnley] three times over the past week’” said Flynn.

“They played against Leeds United at Elland Road where they were pretty impressive. They got a 2-1 win - it was as close as it sounds but they got all three points.

“Then on Tuesday they took on a completely different Forest side, to who had played us on the previous Saturday, which they also won 2-1.

“They then followed this by totally out playing Charlton and winning 3-0 comfortably.

“The two strikers, Sam Vokes and Danny Ings, are both playing really well at the moment and look like they will form a lethal partnership up front for the Lancashire side.

“When the lost Charlie Austin, lots of people thought their play would suffer but in fact they looked like they have improved as a team.

“Behind them they have a workman like solid defence who are very predictable, but in a positive way, and will take some breaking down.

“They are playing well as a team rather than having outstanding individual stars but Ings and Vokes are grabbing the headlines because they are knocking the goals in.

“They have a solid defence with Michael Duff, who has 300 games for Burnley, along side former Rovers loanee Jason Shackell, who they paid good money for. That gives them ability throughout the team, who all work hard for each other, which is a bit like Rovers. The ingredients for a successful side under a good manager are there and momentum will push them on. They have confidence and momentum on their side, which is why they are where they are.

“Burnley is a good place and it is where I started my career. Over 30 ex players all still living in the town because of the family feel it has about it.

“The fans and the players who play there have a relationship that allows them to be successful. It was the same when I was there, so I’m sure the fans who travel will feel part of that family. I know this is something we are working on at Rovers.”
