Youth Team manager Paul Stancliffe spoke to doncasterroversfc.co.uk about his side’s winning start of the season.
The Rovers U18’s have enjoyed a 100% start after winning the opening three games and Stan spoke about the hard work that is yet to come.
“We have had a very good start to the season, having played three games and won them all, which is all you can ask of the young lads,” he said
“If we look at the performances they have not all been what we would want but we are looking for development as well as results.
“We still have a lot of work to do on the development and performances but one thing they are doing is working hard to give themselves a chance.
“We have the new first year lads in and as expected some of them are taking longer to adapt to a whole new lifestyle with full time training plus competitive games.
“Settling into this new life does not happen over night and they are getting there but it will take time as we expected. The new boys are being helped by the second years that play most of the games, which will help them settle and develop.
“The new ones have not been involved as much in the Saturday games, so we have organised friendlies mid week to give them game time.
“Last Saturday we faced a good Chesterfield side and a big positive was that we scored three goals and created at least six more really good chances, which on another day we might have converted.
“Chesterfield caused us problems at times, which is good for the lads’ development as we can see how they handle certain situations. In the first two games we had not created a great deal except from set plays, but on Saturday we put that right by creating good chances in open play.
“We now need to work on the finishing but I took a lot of positives from the game.
“We have another home games next Saturday against Rotherham at Cantley Park (KO 11am). Rotherham were a good side last season so we are expecting another tough game.
“The lads have to approach the game in the right way and do the things we tell them in training - if they do that we should be good for another win.”
