Johnstone Loan Extension 'agreed'

Young stopper to stay with Rovers subject to clearance.

Doncaster Rovers can confirm an agreement with Manchester United to extend goalkeeper Sam Johnstone’s loan with the club until the end of the 2013/14 Sky Bet Championship season.

Manager Paul Dickov had previously stated that conversations between the two clubs had taken place to finalise a deal for the 21 year old beyond the visit of Birmingham City on Saturday.

The England youth ‘keeper has been in impressive form between the sticks for Rovers – since deputising for the injured Ross Turnbull – keeping  four clean sheets in the process.

“For me as the manager, it’s a fantastic situation to have two top English goalkeepers and have that competition for places because they’ve both been outstanding for me.”

Dickov also provided positive news regarding Turnbull’s fitness: “Ross is getting there, his injury has healed up, and he just needs some games under his belt. We had a practice match the other day which was specifically to get Ross game time,” he said.
