Rovers Youth End Season on High

14 April 2014

Match report from Saturday morning's win over near neighbours, Scunthorpe.

SCUNTHORPE UNITED YOUTH 1-5 DONCASTER ROVERS YOUTH

Doncaster Rovers youth team rounded off their season in impressive fashion as they romped to a 5-1 victory over local rivals Scunthorpe courtesy of braces from Callum Terrell and Liam Mandeville.

Paul Stancliffe’s side finished second in the division with 46 points from 22 games behind runaway winners Bradford and this win on the banks of the Humber ensured a better away record than home in a satisfying season for the under-18’s.

MANDEVILLE notched the opener on 25 minutes after some good build up play and TERRELL followed suit just four minutes later to put the visitors in a commanding position.

Rovers – who defeated Hartlepool 11-1 on home turf the previous week – extended their advantage just before half time thanks to Ryan BURNYEAT’S strike.

MANDEVILLE, whose double against Pools was eclipsed by Terrell’s hat-trick, bagged again after the restart but was matched stride for stride by his strike partner yet again as TERRELL added gloss to a vintage performance with his 74th minute goal.

Scunthorpe’s consolation through Ledger, eight minutes from time, was inconsequential to proceedings.

United: Weaver; Cowling, Smythe, Hood; Cleminshawe, Mason, Sutton, Wootton; Burdett, Mosanya.
Rovers: Jack McLaren; Mitchell Lund, Jacob Dawson, Alex Head, Ben Askins; Paul McKay, Liam Mandeville, Spencer Lund, Ryan Burnyeat (Jack McKay, 61); Callum Terrell (Matt Davies, 75), Billy Whitehouse (Aron Gordon, 67).
