Dickov "Up For the Cup"

12 August 2014

Rovers boss wants momentum during busy period.

Paul Dickov has played down talk that he will ring the changes ahead of Doncaster Rovers’ Capital One Cup first round trip to York City.

Dickov, who masterminded Oldham’s FA Cup win over Liverpool in 2013, clearly has pedigree in the cups and is hoping a run in a competition can match Rovers’ impressive start to the League campaign.

“We want to try and win every game we can and it’s no secret that within a lot of clubs a cup run can create a feel-good factor around the place plus the financial benefits,” he said.

“It’s important now that we continue that and get a bit of momentum, which is what we want. As good as the (Yeovil) performance was, I still think we can be better.

“We want to win the game and it will be a strong team that we put out, we just need to make sure that if someone is 80 or 90 percent then we won’t be taking the risk considering the run of games we have coming up because they’ll pick up more injuries.”

Rovers started life in League 1 with a resounding 3-0 win over Yeovil Town at the weekend courtesy of goals from Curtis Main, Harry Forrester and Theo Robinson.

The result leaves Rovers top of the table, albeit after only one game but Dickov is under no illusions when it comes to facing League 2 outfit York.

“We had them watched on Saturday, they’re big and strong and Nigel (Worthington) has done well with them,” he said.

“They had a fantastic end to the season and they got a good point in a decent performance against Tranmere on Saturday and we know it’s going to be really tough.”
