Rob Jones to step up

5 August 2014

Following the departure of Brian Flynn, Doncaster Rovers can confirm that Rob Jones will take a more active role in the development side moving forward.

Jones, who assisted Flynn to guiding the club to promotion in 2013, has long maintained his future after his playing days remains in football, with the club centre back having already achieved most of his coaching badges.

Rob Jones added “I’m half way through my A-licence and at the moment the most important thing for me is playing, I missed out last year.  However I’ve always said I want to stay in football when I’ve finished playing and this is a great opportunity.”

Paul Dickov said “Rob is a leader and someone that everyone in the dressing room and particularly the young talent of Doncaster Rovers look up to.  Having him back in the squad is like having a new signing and were pleased to have him back for selection.  Whilst playing remains his priority, the  opportunity to take a more active role in the development side is a perfect stepping stone for him and something we would have liked to have done last year but his injury delayed this.”
